Red Rods develop visual discrimination of length, while height and width remain constant.  Activities with red rods prepare children for working with the Number Rods, as well as other mathematical concepts. The ten solid wooden rods are constant in height and width (2.5 cm), while increasing in length in equal units from 10 cm (short) to 1 meter (long).
